Defalco Triumph

Mike Falco says he has put in a great deal of hard work and hard cash since announcing a commitment to race in Union International Motonautique (UIM) Class 1 back in 2021.

This season, with a new Victory boat and Billy Moore on throttles, everything was starting to gel, strongly evidenced by the fact that Defalco has won pole position at every round. The team has shown fantastic pace and acceleration but has had to cope with some tough breaks in the actual races. Technical problems have led to poorer results than expected. However, you could tell that the team was close to a deserved victory.

Today they delivered. Coming past the first buoy on the first lap, Mike and Billy ignored the obvious threat from Monster Energy/M CON Racing and dfYOUNG/Good Boy Vodka holding their ground and pulling away from the pack. The lead gradually increased to about five hundred feet, with Monster Energy/M CON in second place, then dfYOUNG/Good Boy Vodka in third. XINSURANCE, appearing for the first time in 2024 followed in fourth.

The gusting wind forced all four boats to yaw to keep their line, which probably gave the drivers a good shoulder workout. Mike Falco and Billy Moore got their first win as a team, and it was well deserved. It still leaves Tyler Miller and Myrick Coil at the top of the leaderboard, but it bumps Defalco straight into second place.

Rich Wyatt in dfYOUNG/Good Boy Vodka had tasted his first Class 1 Victory in the same first race at Sheboygan in 2023, so he would understand how Mike Falco was feeling. Rich and driver Alex Pratt have the consolation of a third-place podium plus a third place in the 2024 standings to date.

XINSURANCE trailed the other boats but completed the full race, earning 9 points. According to Randy Kent, the week before, they had drive problems during testing and were forced to change to spare drives that weren't configured for the conditions. The team aims to change the set-up for the second race on Sunday.
