It was a double anniversary day for P1 yesterday as the promoter celebrated two decades of powerboat racing around the world and ten years of P1 Aquax jet ski racing in the United States.
Powerboat P1 CEO Azam Rangoonwala was presented with a giant birthday cake on the opening day of the Monster Energy P1 Offshore St. Petersburg Powerboat Grand Prix to mark the two anniversaries.
It all began with Azam’s father, Asif in an Italian resort town on the Tyrrhenian Sea. It was May 2003 and the very first Powerboat P1 Grand Prix of the Sea launched a new era of marine motorsport. Since then, P1 has staged more than 700 powerboat and jet ski races in 19 countries on 4 continents, and who knows when and where the 1,000th race will take place.
