Pothole Heroes produced a stunning first lap to storm to the top of the times sheets in official qualifying and will start race 1 of the Mercury Racing Midwest Challenge from Pole Position.
In difficult conditions, driving rain and poor visibility, Carlos de Quesada and Johnny Tomlinson were third out onto the 6-mile course and ripped up the form book on their opening and only lap with a time of 3:39.48s to smash the provisional pole time of 3:45.12s set by championship leaders Darren Nicholson and Giovanni Carpitella in 222 Offshore by over five seconds.
Title challengers Steve Curtis and Brit Lilly posted their best of 3:49.75 on their second run but were well off the pace in Huski Ice Spritz and will start from P3.
XINSURANCE/Goodboy Vodka’s Randy Kent and Grant Bruggemann maintained their impressive form in just their second outing together to go fourth fastest with 3:50.02 to edge dfYoung by just over two seconds, with Monster Energy/M Con Racing in sixth ahead of Defalco.
Race 1 of the Mercury Racing Midwest Challenge, round 4 of the UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship, starts at 1.30 pm CDT/Local and will be streamed live on class1world.com and social media channels.
