UIM - Union internationale motonautique

Established in 1922, the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) is the world governing body for all Powerboating activities. It is fully recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is a member of the Association of the IOC Recognized International Sports Federations (ARISF) for whom the UIM President serves as President and Board member.

The UIM has 64 affiliated National Federations. Offshore, Circuit, Pleasure Navigation and Aquabike are among the main disciplines. The UIM has signed a Cooperation Agreement with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) to further its range of environmental initiatives and to share expertise.

American Power Boat Association

The American Power Boat Association (APBA) is the national organization that governs powerboat racing in the United States. The APBA was founded in 1903 and has since then been responsible for establishing and enforcing the rules and regulations for powerboat racing events. It is the United States sanctioning authority for the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), the world governing body for powerboat racing.

Headquartered in Florida, the APBA has over 3,500 active members and sanctions over 150 races nationwide. The APBA sanctions all types of power boat racing from 205+ mph Unlimited Hydroplanes to smaller Junior Classes.

The APBA sanctions a variety of powerboat racing events including inboard, outboard, and offshore races. The organization also organizes national championships and maintains records for various categories of powerboat racing.

In addition to regulating powerboat racing, the APBA is also involved in promoting safe boating practices and supporting youth programs to encourage interest and participation in powerboat racing.
